Viewed among his peers as the complete guitarist, John “Groovalicious” Willis has all the bases covered. His guitar playing encompasses the styles of Jazz-Fusion, R&B, Blues, Funk, Rock, Gospel, Latin and Soul. Known both for laying down tasty grooves and emoting lead guitar work that touches the soul, Groovalicious plays with serious passion and feel. Inspired by his father to play the trumpet as a child, he later started playing guitar at age 13 and in his later teen years did gigs playing both instruments. Eventually he gravitated toward the guitar as he found it more expressive. Originally from the NYC music scene, he has worked and shared the stage and studio with artists such as Melissa Morgan, William “Prez” Bush, The Clones Of Funk, Dave Mullen and Butta, Mo’ Phat, and The Nappyhead Funk Army. His style was developed listening to the music of Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, Funkadelic, Earth, Wind & Fire, Prince, Rufus & Chaka Khan, Return to Forever, Miles Davis, Alan Holdsworth, and Hiram Bullock. Groovalicious has now stepped out as a solo artist with an upcoming CD titled “Proper Introduction” and can be seen at various venues in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area with the areas most talented musicians known as “The Groovalicious Project”.
